by google goggles, it is enable us to search by taking a picture: point our mobile phone camera at a painting, a famous landmark, a barcode or QR code, a product, a storefront, or a popular image, and if  goggles finds it in its database, it will provide us with useful information.

here i will explain about the business model and scamper analysis to innovate and create a new google goggles!

for the infrastructure,

after conducting existing business model, we were asked to create scamper analysis innovation ways. here is my group’s works!

to be honest, i loved previous session of Creativity and Innovation class. it is about how to think out-of-the-box to create changes from existing products/services to be a new one. in previous session, we were asked to form a group to discuss about how to innovate SBM with S.CA.M.PE.R method?

what’s S.C.A.M.P.E.R method? it is substitute, combine, adapt, modify, put to other use, eliminate, and reverse

we had so much fun discussing about the ideas,  all of the group members were giving their own creative ideas (until i was indifferent whether the ideas of them is too creative, or too insane)

so, here it is!

substitute: i wish to substitute the learning process from study-at-school to be study-wherever-you-want as long as we had internet access. yes! it would be an online school. however, it is only implemented on wednesday-friday. on monday and tuesday we still have to go to school.

combine: i wish i could combine my favorite actress/actors/any figures to be our lecturers during online school. SBM could use a video conference, so that we could interact with our worldwide favorite and inspirational figures through internet

adapt: i wish i could adapt a non stop entertainment concept to SBM, so that we would not never get bored there, and also to prevent laziness to go to college

modify: since SBM had rooftop and it is still unused, i wish i could modify it to be a restaurant-in-the-sky (not only good food, bu good view). and it is definitely no more kantin paksi, but a classy restaurant instead

put to other use: i wish that SBM  is not only can be used for a educational purpose, but it can also be used as a dormitory for students

eliminate: i wish that too many rules could be erased. no rules, but free!

reverse: i wish that lectures could give bonus for every exam’s score we got, so that it can motivate us to study more. the higher score, the higher salary

let i finish this post by saying, amen.

And thanks to Creativity & Innovation tasks for making me realize that IDEO IS THAT COOL! (that I have never wondered before)

Here will be explained about IDEO company deeper, how great is them to make big impact for the other organizations through their brilliant designs,

IDEO is an award-winning global design firm that takes a human-centered, design-based approach to helping organizations in the public and private sectors innovate and grow.

They identify new ways to serve and support people by uncovering latent needs, behaviors, and desires. They envision new companies and brands, and we design the products, services, spaces, and interactive experiences that bring them to life. They help organizations build creative culture and the internal systems required to sustain innovation and launch new ventures.

The president and CEO of IDEO, once said,

tim brown

“Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.”

Thinking like a designer can transform the way organizations develop products, services, processes, and strategy. This approach, which IDEO calls design thinking, brings together what is desirable from a human point of view with what is technologically feasible and economically viable. It also allows people who aren’t trained as designers to use creative tools to address a vast range of challenges.

All of IDEO’s work is done in consideration of the capabilities of our clients and the needs of their customers. As we iterate toward a final solution, we assess and reassess our designs. Our goal is to deliver appropriate, actionable, and tangible strategies. The result: new, innovative avenues for growth that are grounded in business viability and market desirability.

Facebook’s Business Models

Based on the Facebook’s business model above, we can infer that the revenue stream for the Facebook is get from the display advertisement. Talking about the innovations, Facebook did a differentiation on how they do the advertisements if we compare it to Google. Google uses keyword advertising that is adopted from the invention of Overture.

Display ads somehow distract the users, and are also not that efficient at producing revenues. Facebook only make about 1/10th of Google’s revenues even though they have 2x the page views.

However, Facebook has a lot of room to target ads more effectively and put ads in more places. Google makes the vast majority of their revenues when people search for something to buy or hire. They don’t have to stoke demand – they simply harvest it. When people use Facebook, they are generally socializing with friends. You can put billboards all over a park, and maybe sometimes you’ll happen to convert people from non-purchasing to purchasing intents. But you end up with a cluttered park, and not very effective advertising.

Facebook ads feel more like batteries, Happydent bubble gums, KitKat chocolate bars when we are queuing to cashier in the supermarket. We may not need those stuffs but when we are bored waiting on line we may purchase one.

Since Facebook is more likely display the ads on a more specific target market (not display it randomly), to generate more revenues from display ads, I simply recommend Facebook to sell the users profiles to the marketers. Facebook can save the users’ history when they are surfing on Facebook. For example, if someone has a preference on seeing H&M, Top Shop, New Look, and Forever 21, Facebook can conclude that she has an interest in young, fresh, and up-to-date fashion. The user contacts like e-mail are exactly things that Facebook can sell to the marketers. Thus, the marketers can more focus to display the ads ONLY to the users that are listed by Facebook.

After acquiring Instagram in last April 2012, I think Facebook will acquire another brand that is popular in Apple and Android users, like Path maybe? Or another access for Facebook users to chat to Line users. Yeah..who knows.

For some people, memorizing is a hard thing to do, especially when it comes to name of people, companies, latin words, chemicals, organs, etc. In senior high school, some of us may already familiar with memorizing chemicals from the elements periodic table by making them to be some sentences.

For example, from the first and second s valence electron (yellow)

We can make them into:

Hajah Lina Kawin Robi Cs Frustasi

Beli Mangga Campur Sirup Bagi Rata

Simple and fun, isn’t it? Now, we will try to memorize:

Basically we will do the same thing, but in a little bit different way. All we have to do is combining the name on the left side with the connecting words on the right side. Here is the story I have made with my 2 friends, Rian Mahardika and Aditya Pratama in Creativity and Innovation class last Tuesday.

That’s all….hahaha selamat mencoba! 😀

All of you must have known Pixar before. Pixar Animation Studios is a subsidiary company of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group (Disney). Based in Emeryville, California, and is known by winning seven Academy Awards. Some of you must have noticed what movies that are started with the  ‘Pixar’ text before they start, or maybe some of you may know the movies, but still in doubt whether they are produced by Pixar or not. So, the first Pixar’s movie I want to show you first is:

I should admit that Up is the first movie animation movie that brought me into tears. I bet everyone, even for boys, agree that this is one of the most touching movies ever.

Award? This movie successfully got $ 727,820,090 and won the Academy Award for “Best Animated Feature” in 2009. Up also became the first computer animated movie that gets nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.

The second movie I am going to review is Wall-E. In this movie, they tried to predict the state of the earth and human in the future. Opened by the presence of cockroaches in the world (it proved that cockroaches are one of the most wonderful creatures) LOL.

I personally think that Wall-E is one of the Disney’s movies that is pretty inspired. This movie showed us a love story between two robots in different caste. One robot is a damaged robot that works to manage rubbish, while another robot is a sophisticated and multi-functioned one. She is also able to fly to space. So interesting, and of course, “better love story than Twilight”. 😀

Wall-E successfully reached profit to $521.936.655 and won Academy Award for “Best Animated Feature”category in 2008.

Need more movies? Well, next is for the best touching ending animated movie and it goes to Toy Story 3!

This is the most successful movies released by Pixar. Toy Story 3 is the only animated movie that successfully gain profit until $ 1 billion, and only the seventh movie did. Toy Story 3 is also animated movies with the highest profit so far, broke the record of Shrek 2 with $ 919 million. It is in the rank number five in the most successful movies of all time, with the highest profit in 2010, and end up by winning an Academy Award for “Best Animated Feature” in 2010.

Pixar is also the most successful animation producer in the “Best Animated Feature” by winning six out of eight nominations; its nearest competitor is DreamWorks Animation SKG that won 1 of 6 nominations. Isn’t Pixar is so remarkable with all the achievements they got?

Beside many great movies released, Pixar’s office definitely will also blow your mind!

A giant halls that look more like aircraft hangars

It really personifies the fun and childlike wonder of their movies. Each room has its own outrageous atmosphere. Well, the headquarter of Pixar, at the end, force us to conclude that this is the place where creativity is prized!

Dear Indonesian, do we also need a kind of that? 🙂
